Me

Hi, my name is Sheri, and this blog is mostly about the embarrassing moments of me, my husband Aaron, our cheeky daughter Hannah, and rambunctious son Daniel.  We live in the western suburbs of Sydney in a 3 bedroom house with a very small backyard (which I like to grow as much edible stuff as I can in, without impacting the already limited play space for the kids. I guess I’m what you could call an urban farmer).

My heirloom beans are growing with my heirloom corn as beans fix nitrogen, and corn likes nitrogen. This part of the veggie patch is only about 1 foot wide.

Aaron and me on our wedding day, December 2004

I am a part time student studying Sustainable Agriculture and Food Security, and my husband and I teach Sunday school.

I grew up in Washington State, USA, surrounded by horses, cats, a dog, and plenty of room to play outside.  When I was 17 years old, I came to Australia as a high school exchange student, met Aaron and have been here ever since.

Fine, that’s not entirely true, I’ve been back a number of times for different visas and visits.  After many years, thousands of dollars, and trips to immigration offices, I am now a citizen of Australia.

About to get my citizenship, Australia day 2012

Before having Hannah, I worked as a children’s photographer, as well as a wedding photographer before we decided to pack up and move to the city where I worked as a travel agent.  While I was pregnant, I had the best ever pregnant job – a concierge in an apartment building.  My duties included: greeting coming and going residents, cleaning finger prints off the door, once a day checking each floor for burnt out lights and rubbish jams.  Mostly, I sat at a desk surfing the web, and resting my incredibly swollen, painful feet.  I’ve also been a vacuum cleaner salesman (woman, whatever), pizza delivery driver, I worked at Dairy Queen, Safeway, and I was a waitress for a while as well.

And I’m a little bit…left of centre (as my Dad puts it). Ha!

Gorgeous blog you have going! Your pictures are beautiful. I’ve always wanted to go to Australia. I did live in Olympia for 2 years and loved it. But now with two little kids, it looks like I’m stuck in Maine for awhile now. LOL

Thank you, and thanks for reading 🙂 Haha, at a glimpse, I thought your name was Sheri’s a Maineiac and I was like “what??? Mean!” And then I realised that it said she’s a Maineiac and that there is a reason it’s MAINEiac…. I suppose that is what happens when I read my comments when I first wake up.

      • She's a Maineiac February 21, 2011 at 6:57 am #

LOL. Speaking of which, I came up with that title half-asleep when one of my friends begged me to start a blog. Now I can’t change it, too late…stuck with it!

Well, I suppose if you had a little one at the time, you would be half-asleep, so it’s pretty appropriate.

I have lived here in Australia (the Gold Coast) for about 4 years… I moved here from Bend, Orefon. The whole “shopping trollie” thing has just about driven me nuts!! Nobody seems to get it! I finally found someone who can relate Ha! Thank you so much

    • Mommy Adventures October 17, 2012 at 2:06 pm #

I know, THEY DRIVE ME NUTS!!!!! Every time I go to the store (because it is a store, and you understand, so I don’t have to call it a supermarket…), and have to push a cart full of groceries and two kids down a hill and around a corner to the car park, I think “Damn you ridiculous shopping cart! Why can’t you be like American ones?!” ARGH. I’m glad you understand 🙂

I have a 3 year old son and 10 month old daughter and we also live in an apartment. It’s big, but sometimes not big enough. On my blog I talk about creating space in a cluttered environment. Sometimes it’s tough to make room when you have none! LOL! Keep up the great posts, I enjoy them. Maybe we can work together on our blogs?

  17. madsciencewarlock July 19, 2013 at 7:27 am #

Oh my gosh! You’re from Washington state?! Me too~!!! (Well, I’ve lived here all except 3 years of my life.)
Sorry, I just got really excited reading that line because I was wondering why you were not an official citizen and whatnot, which led to my discovery…

    • Mommy Adventures July 19, 2013 at 1:50 pm #

Yep, Washington born and bred 🙂 I am a citizen of Australia now though. Still a U.S. citizen too.
