When I’m three

4 Jun

I’ve told you about trying to potty train Hannah before. I’m so over it. It’s been monthsActually, I first tried to potty train her a year ago. A YEAR! Granted I wasn’t trying that whole time (because of this, but still….

The whole thing is just driving me nuts. She pees on the potty, but refuses to poop on it. She’s been pee potty trained for months. But she’s only pooped on the toilet or potty a handful of times. I know she knows how. I know she knows when she needs to.

The Potty Book – For Girls

Once Hannah was in the bathtub and she told me she had to poop. I put her on the toilet and she did a giant poo. She knew that if she pooped in the bath she’d have to get out, the bath would need to be cleaned, she’d have to stand there like a drowned rat for a bit, and then she’d have to get back in. So she told me she had to poop. See, I knew she knew….

Now she wears her big girl underpants because a) she wants to, and that must be a step in the right direction. Right? b) if I put her in a pull up, she’ll get lazy and just pee in it because she knows she can, and c) it’s cheaper than her being in nappies or pull-ups all the time.

The perils of potty training

But as I said, she pees in the potty, and poops in…her underpants. Sigh. Sometimes the poop is a little bit squidgy. Depends on what she eats I suppose. Have you ever tried to get a little-bit-squidgy poop out of underpants? It’s hard. And disgusting. And messy. Ick.

The whole thing is just driving me crazy! I’m so sick of cleaning up crap. Well, her crap. Daniel’s is ok, he’s too young to think about potty training. She’s nearly three. THREE! It’s so embarrassing changing her poopy pull-ups (Ok, fine, she wears pull-ups when we’re out. Imagine having to deal with the poo underpants in public) in the parents room at the shopping centre. She lays there, speaking full, proper sentences, while I wipe her butt.

I imagine everyone in the room is staring at me, wondering why my child, who is so clearly too old to not be potty trained, is laying there in soiled pull-ups. Seriously, so embarrassing.

I asked her why she won’t poop on the toilet. And you know what she said?

“I’m still a little girl Mommy. When I’m three, I’ll be a big girl and I will poop in the toilet. I will poop in the toilet for my birthday.”

At least it’s only one month until her birthday. One month exactly. And knowing my stubborn, strong-willed daughter, she will do just that. She will poop on the toilet the day she turns three. At least I hope so. If not, I think I might pull my hair out.

My son refused to be potty trained too..He FINALLY got the pee in the potty but just like you said..he refused to poop in the potty..he knew..he just wouldn’t. i got SO mad on more than one occasion and told him he would be 8 and still pooping in his pants! No, it wasn’t that bad but the Doctor said that it was a control issue. We tell them when to get up, when to eat, what to eat, when to bathe, when to poop…It’s the one thing they can control in their lives..when and where they poop…At the time when i was having issues with him, we had a rabbit and a cat and I was constantly cleaning poop and I said ..enough!! LOL I bribed him cause he wanted this certain (expensive..$20) toy. I told him if he pooped in the potty (we made a chart) for 2 weeks with no accidents he could go to the store and pick out ANY toy he wanted ( within a certain price range). He did it so we went to the store. He carefully looked over the whole store, checking out ALLLLL of the toys in that price range AND TELLING EVERYONE, I pooped in the potty so I get ANY toy I want…I pooped in the potty..hey..hey..I pooped in the potty! LOL I wish I had a camcorder back then and had been able to tape it!

Well, I’m glad I’m not the only one! I tried that tactic. She has Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, Pluto, and Donald plush toys, and we’ve been looking for a Daisy. I told her that if she poops on the potty for 2 weeks (maybe that’s the magic number?), I’d buy her a Daisy from the internet. I showed her the pictures of it online and everything. We have the potty chart, the stickers. I have a Mickey Mouse Easter egg with a toy inside as an immediate reward for pooping on the potty. But still, nothing. I’m pretty sure it’s a control issue too, and I guess she’s doing a pretty good job of controlling me with it. More like DRIVING ME NUTS! Sigh. It’s ridiculous. Sometimes I can look at her and I know she’s pooping. I’ll ask her and she’ll be like “No, NO! I’m NOT!” but the way she says it tells me that she knows she’s going and she knows that I know she knows. Cheeky little monkey!

lolz…..its hilarious, but tough for the mommy in question. My son is 7 and still wets his bed every night (doesn’t poop there though), and whatever I do, its too tough to get him out of this habit……..it seems, some kids just don’t want to give their mommy a happy life 😛

I had the same issues with Number 2 of 4 kids. Total control issue. It lasted until she was 5. then we had wetting issues, (only at school, never at night or on long trips) As she grew older 4 and 5, she would hold her poop for days, doubled over in pain, until finally she couldn’t hold it anymore, and she would poop a tennis ball. We tried everything, extra fiber, mineral oil everyday, rewards, Dr’s, you name it we did it. Going to kindergarten was what finally pushed her to use the toilet regularly, but I also completely let up on the whole potty trainning thing. After my experience with her, I never pushed any potty trainning on the other two, I figured as long as it was before school started for them, we were good. Gotta say, it has all worked out, but number 2 is still my most challanging child. Good luck and best wishes.

wow, that sounds terrible! I can’t believe kids actually do that to themselves! They think it makes them in control, but really the poo is controlling them….

It really does not matter when she potty trains. As long as she gets it down in time for school it doesn’t matter what her age is. People who make a big deal about kids not being potty trained need to get a life and mind their own business.
