I was watching Wife Swap the other week and the dad of one of the families was an atheist. He had his own internet radio program that’s sole purpose was to dispute God and try to get others to believe the same as him. This was also his job, his only income, surviving on donations from listeners.
I’m a little confused though. Why do atheists (not all, I don’t want to generalize, but in my experience, those whom I’ve come across hold true to this perception) try to get others to also believe there is no God? I know why you’re thinking, why do Christians try to get others to believe as they do? Good question. We try to get you to believe as we do for your own salvation. It’s actually quite hard to talk to non-Christians about Christ. Hard, uncomfortable, and it sometimes leads to being left out, ridiculed, patronised, and even persecuted. But we still do it. We do it because we believe that if you don’t believe that Jesus died for our sins, and if you don’t follow him, then you will go to Hell. So we do it for you because we don’t want you to go to Hell.
I’m not sure why atheists try to sway us, it doesn’t get them anything, it doesn’t get us anything, I just can’t figure it out. So please, if you are an atheist, or agnostic, or what ever, please let me know.

Atheists and agnostics try to get people to think “their” way because they believe religion is the major cause of war and conflict. So they do, in their mind, have something to gain by preaching about their point of view.
How about we all just be happy, forget war and let everyone believe what they think, as long as they don’t hurt others?
Of course that is a fairy tale. As long as humans walk Earth, they will be compelled to convince anyone within their reach to think like them. The old “strength in numbers” and need to be part of the dominant group.

I’m an atheist but I don’t try to push it on to people because I don’t appreciate it when some religious people try to push their beliefs on to me.
I have no problem with people being religious, in fact I think for some believers finding God has made them a much better person. People who are afraid of going to hell would surely use that alone as a good reason to not sin, which in my eyes is a pretty good thing.
I guess in the same way you want to save non-christians from going to hell, athiests want you to see their beleif that there is no heaven and hell and water into wine and a guy with a beard. I guess in their own way, they want to help you see “the truth” and think that they will help you by doing so.
I myself find it a lot easier to not believe in God for many reasons, but I would rather keep it my reasons to myself and not preach to people. Maybe some athiests are just a lot more vocal about their beliefs, the same as some religious people are.
